# How To Calculate CGPA On A 5.0 Scale How To Calculate CGPA On A 5.0 Scale: Calculating CGPA on a 5.0 scale may seem very hard, but to be very frank it is the simplest if you understand the formulas.

Now let’s break down the whole process of calculating CGPA on a 5.0 scale. However, CGPA Simply means Cumulative Grade Point Average.

Now in other to calculate your cumulative grade point average on a 5.0 scale, you need to first understand the final grades classifications.

## What Are Final Grades Classifications?

The final grade classifications are used to classify students based on their academic performance starting from first Class to low Pass. See below GPA Classes.

4.50 – 5.0 = First Class
3.50 – 4.49 = Second Class Higher
2.40 – 3.49 = Second Class Lower
1.50 – 2.39 = Third Class
1.49 – and below = Pass

While Grading, both the Exams and C. A merged together is 100. Which is Exam = 70 Marks while C.A = 30 Marks.

Now let’s grade it by marks

100 – 70 Marks = A
69 – 60 Marks = B
59 – 50 Marks = C
49 – 45 Marks = D
40 – 44 Mark = E
39 – And below = F

## How To Calculate CGPA On A 5.0 Scale

The Calculation: Now Let’s assume we are taking 6 courses in our year-one First Semester. And we have the following Credit Units/Hours below for each course.

### First Semester GPA

MTH105 = 5 units course
PHY105 = 5 units course
CHS105 =5 units course
ENG112 = 3 units course
PHI 100 = 3 units course
FEC 120 = 3 units course

Then after completing the courses we got the following marks on each course.

MTH105 = 56 marks which is C at 5 units X 3 = 15 points
CHS105 = 72 mark which is A at 5 units X 5 = 25 points
PHY105 = 69 mark which is B at 5 units X 4 = 20 points
PHI100 = 58 marks which is C at 3 units X 3 = 9 points
FEC120 = 78 marks which is A at 3 units X 5 = 15 Points
ENG112 =84 marks which is A at 3 units X 5 = 15 Points

Now let’s calculate the total units and point by plusing them, then dividing the answers of each together.

Total Units = 5+5+5+3+3+3 = 24 Units

Total Point =15+25+20+9+15+15 = 99 Points

Then the GPA = 99 Points / 24 Units = 4.13

Now always make sure you divide the higher number with the lower number to get the correct answer.

This means our First Semester GPA on the 5.0 scale is 4.13.

Now let’s take the same step for our second semester.

### Second Semester GPA

MTH106 = 5 unit course
PHY106 = 5 unit course
CHS105 = 5 unit course
ENG113 = 3 units course
ANT 100 = 3 units course
FEC 123 = 3 units course

Then again after completing the courses we got the following marks on each course.

MTH106 = 66 marks which is B at 5 units X 4= 20 Pointsz
CHS106 = 84 marks which is A at 5 units X 5= 25 Points
PHY105 = 52 marks which is C at 5 units X 3= 15 Points
PHI100 = 67 marks which B at 3 units X 4= 12 Points
FEC120 = 54 marks which C at 3 units X 3= 9 Points
ENG112 = 84 marks which A at 3 units X 5= 15 Points

Now let’s calculate again the total units and point by plusing them, then dividing the answers of each together.

Total Units = 5+5+5+3+3+3= 24 units

Total Point = 20+25+15+12+9+15=96 Points

The Second semester GPA = 96Points / 24 units = 4.00

Then the CGPA = (96+99)/(24+24) = 195/48 = 4.06
